BC Fashion Highlight: Claire
Marilyn Monroe once said, “give a woman the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world.”
With these beautiful brown, leather Tory Burch boots, Claire is ready to conquer her world that is BC. She is ready to take on the cold weather, the stairs, and her classes. Her nice Burberry coat and warm, cozy sweater add extra warmth for that cold wind that whips through campus. Her double gold...
Nicki Minaj's Grammys Performance Takes On...
On Sunday night at the Grammys, in front of a crowd wrecked by sadness, Nicki Minaj ascended to fantastic heights in a religious themed performance that had many wringing their hands.
As she strutted down the red carpet in red vestments, shrouded in a hood and flanked by a man dressed as the pope, audiences wondered what she might do during her performance. As the opening whirs of “Roman’s...
Tech To Try: Temple Run
In case you needed a distraction for your other distractions, Temple Run is just the mind-numbingly-simple-yet-devastatingly-addicting game for you.
The premise is an ambiguous one—it has something to do with nabbing some treasure and subsequently being chased by ravenous monkeys through a never ending chain of obstacles, of course, it’s the game’s increasing speed and frequency of obstacles that...
Alumni Spotlight: Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck
You may know Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, A&S ‘99, from ABC’s The View, where she’s gained a reputation for her conservative standpoint on hot-button issues. Perhaps a considerably less-coifed version comes to mind recalling her 2001 television debut on Survivor: Australian Outback where she made it to the final four? If you were a Boston College student from 1995 to 1999...

Hopefully You Weren't Planning On Using Wikipedia...
Whether you’re a college student in dire need of sources for that premature research paper due tomorrow or simply curious about an obscure space weather phenomenon, Wikipedia won’t be there to help you today. Today is “Internet Blackout Day.”
Wikipedia is just one of several major websites participating in a campaign to simulate what the Web experience would be like if...

Campus Reader: Spotted in Fenwick Lounge
Name: Tim Prentiss (A&S 2015; from Oregon) Reading: Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, the latest book in the Eragon series. Are you a big Eragon Fan? “Not really, I just read it when I was a kid so I wanted to finish it out.” Why the Kindle instead of paperback? “It’s just cheaper and real easy to use. You can just go online and download what you want rather than go find a bookstore.”...

A stitch in time saves (Plex edition)...
Do you ever wonder what is the fastest route from upper campus to the Plex? So far the weather has been pretty decent, but that is soon going to change as we enter the winter months. Following up on a prior post on shortcuts between Upper and Lower, we had staffers time routes from Upper to the Plex and determine the fastest route. Below are the recorded times of a few routes:

Everyday is Sandwich Day at BC.
In honor of National Sandwich Day, we surveyed the most popular cafe destination on campus for the top 5 best-selling sandwiches. Number one selling panini-sandwich at Hillside Cafe? You might be surprised to find out it is not the New England Classic.
“The New England Classic was the number 1 sandwich until we introduced the Baja Chicken a couple of years of ago,” said Colleen...

Blogger Opinion: Through wins & losses,...
Photo by Patrick Semansky / AP Photo.
How many SuperFans will brave the early November chill to watch the Eagles play Florida State on Thursday?
It’s a nationally televised game, which would normally mean that any SuperFan worth his or her salt would go all out on the face paint, cheering, and of course, pregaming. But given BC’s record this season, is it worth it? Does last week’s win against...

The 4 W's: Occupy Wall Street
Occupy Wall Street protest in Oakland, CA. Photo courtesy of Occupy Wall Street website.
WHAT IT IS: If you’ve been living under a rock (or in Bapst) for the last five weeks, you may well have no idea what this movement is about. As it so happens, like many wide-scale movements with no declared leader(s), OWS has articulated no specific central demands or goals. However, in their own...

Tech to Try: Hit Play on Spotify
How does this sound? Free access to over 15 million songs whenever you want. And we’re not talking Pandora-style free access here (“Tell us the song you want and we’ll ignore you and instead play songs like the song you want.”) We’re talking “I want to hear ‘Pumped Up Kicks’” and then it just starts playing. It’s all 100% legal did I mention it’s completely free? So what is this...

Newton Bus Etiquette: Dos & Don’ts
We’ve all cringed when we’ve seen that one kid drunkenly stumble onto the bus at one a.m. on Saturday morning, and we’ve all given a brownie point out to the person that always remembers to say “thanks” to the driver. Here are some dos and don’ts to help you get back to the dorm in one piece and look cool doing it. DON’Ts:
Don’t do flips like you’re on the monkey bars at recess. Those ...

You, Your Food, and Your World
FOOD!
Have I gotten your attention? At least half of the events you’ve attended on campus probably sparked your interest by offering free food, so why not take a minute to consider the impact of all that consumption.
For the next 10 days you can check out EcoPledge’s art exhibit in the O’Neill Level One Gallery to see how food is affecting your body and the environment:

Re: Mysterious structures in Fulton
We know you all have been anxiously awaiting the response to yesterday’s post about the mystery behind the newspaper structures in Fulton. Thankfully, we found a student who knew exactly what these structures are.

We asked several people in the building this question: “What do you think these structures are for?”
We received answers like, “I have no idea,” “Some kind of art project,” and also many, many weird...

Tech to Try: Amazon Student
As college students, we’ve got it pretty good. We get to spend our days on a beautiful campus with all of our friends, we still get summers off, and we’re supposedly living out “the best 4 years of our lives.”
Another perk of being a college student? Student discounts. This week’s Tech to Try is a student discount that a lot of people don’t seem to know about, and it comes from everyone’s...

Bad news beers.
Beer is great for a BC football tailgate, but apparently not at an off-campus party with a catfight brewing. Wicked Local Allston/Brighton recently reported that Boston Police had to break up a wrestling match between two BC women during a loud party on Foster Street.
Officers were responding to a noise complaint, and when they arrived, they were greeted with a beer can-strewn apartment and two...

State of the Freshman Appetite

9/11: We Will Not Forget

This year, like last year (and the year before that), Americans are taking the time to remember and reflect on the events of September 11th, 2011 through local and national observances. But unlike last year, this time will be on the ten-year mark of the senseless day in American history. And while no amount of time passed will make 9/11 more...
